Hey guys, it’s been a little while.
These last 30 days have been stressful, eye opening, sad, and one of the best learning experiences I have had.
The campaign consisted of hundreds of emails and phone calls either with companies for advertising or advice, and customers for questions or conversations.
The Kickstarter was off to a rocky start from the beginning, and it became very easy to see the impact advertising has on projects. Going into it I thought I had built up a small following, but there is so much more that goes into the process. I won’t get into the specifics, but now I have a much better understanding of what sites to post to, where to advertise heavily, and hopefully more knowledge on what you guys want in a game.
It is sad to end my 30 days like this, but I have to look at it as an opportunity to grow and create something even better. I’m hoping to bring the Scorched Kingdoms back to Kickstarter in the future, but I’m not sure about the timetable yet.
Some other opportunities have arisen for the game throughout this process that I want to fully explore before I make any final decisions. There has been one offer to buy the game and take control of the process, and another looking at more of a partnership type deal.
I guess the best way to put it is what I want to do vs. what I should do.
The stubborn side of me wants to believe I could create this game and bring it to everyone if I just work hard enough. Then, there is the side that says, I made it as far as I can by myself, that it’s time to ask for help, and that might mean giving up on some of the things I wanted to do in the future.
It’s like that day as a kid when you learn you are not actually invincible.
I started creating the game and writing the stories to find a way to express myself, because even at the age of 27, I still have a hard time when it comes to talking about things or admitting that I’m not invincible. It is very therapeutic and something I love, but there are other things to factor in now.
In the end, no matter what I choose, my main goal is to make the game available for anyone who wants it and finding a way to still get everything finished. I also plan on keeping up with the blog, it might just have to change directions a little, depending on what happens in the next couple weeks.
I have never been one to relinquish control to others, and this would be a big step for me. So I don't really have an idea which direction I’m leaning toward, but you guys will be among the first to know when I decide.
Even though the outcome is different then I hoped, I am still glad I did the campaign, and am looking forward to the next chapter. If this game does not make it back to Kickstarter, I will still be able to use what I learned for my next project.
I never saw the Scorched Kingdoms as a single game, and there is no way it will die after one bump in the road.
Thank you for all of your support through this process and I hope you will continue with me to see what happens next. Now the difference is that the future is as much of a mystery to me as it is to you. I have a good feeling about things, so we will just have to see what happens.
As always, it’s great to have you here and we will be talking again soon!
