Glad to see you guys are finally back.
No really, I’m sorry about the extended vacation. When I got back last week I came back to a lot more than I thought I would.
In an attempt to make my way back into everyone's good graces, I thought I would use this blog to introduce the Tormentor deck. Only included in the new Kickstarter campaign later this summer. I was able to get everything completed and lower the pricing to work it in as a free fifth deck.
While the fifth deck is a standalone addition, the interesting part is how it integrates with the other four decks, adding a more strategic approach and a true deck building aspect to the original game.
The new character skills will run off of any token resource, unlike the other four clans that need a specific type of resource to run properly. This makes the Tormentors valuable in all decks created. Their abilities also cover a great deal of ground, filling any gap you might find in your favorite deck: speeding it up, making it more consistent, or strengthening your weaker characters.
Last, and most importantly, each of the characters will have a skill that is activated from your hand. This will change the way players approach each game. Now players will be able to counter moves you make or negate them altogether.
I found that this first stage of the game worked well, but was missing some of that stress you love to feel in a game. It was missing that fear of the unknown to add hesitation to a player before they make that perfect move. I know it doesn't seem like a huge change, but the feedback from play tests have been amazing with the new mechanic. All in all this will bring an additional 40 cards, give or take a few, to the original Kickstarter.
I will go into more detail and background info about the deck closer to the start of the campaign. I'm also going to add a couple of the Tormentor cards at the bottom of this post for you guys to look at, in case there was confusion from my description above.
The last thing I wanted to mention is that the Scorched Kingdoms has been added to BoardGameGeek. My top priority leading into the new campaign is to gain a presence and following on the king of the game sites. If any of you guys happen to be a member on the site, I would love feedback and suggestions on how to navigate it. I have found BGG to be quite intimidating and not very friendly to new members. All comments and ratings are greatly appreciated. If you have a favorite image or post from the Scorched Kingdoms social media feel free to tag that as well. The more you guys get involved the better the experience is for everyone.
This is where I leave you for today. Hope everyone has a great July 4th weekend, and I’ll be talking to you all soon!
